Route Description
(GR 169835)Hope - Turn left out of Woodbine cafe on the main A6187 Castleton Road, passing Woodroffe Arms pub on the right. Take the next left on a minor road under, and then over, a railway bridge as the road bears to the right. Climb to Fullwood Farm, then bear left up to a gate leading onto a Roman Road bridleway. Climb for 2km past Hope Cross and reach Crookstone Barn.
(GR 160876)Crookstone Barn - Turn right at trail crossroads, descending down tree line to a gateway. Go through the gateway onto Woodlands Valley descent. Follow to the bottom, crossing the river, Then climbing sharply to the main A57. Turn right and follow the road for 1.5km, before picking up a bridleway on the left, climbing sharply through a patch of woodland. Turn left through a gate at the top, climbing alongside a drystone wall to the corner gate. Go through the gate and down to another corner gate. Climb across the field to the top gate at the tree line. Follow the edge of Hagg Side forest to the top of the descent.
(GR 163890)Hagg Farm Descent - Descend to the A57 again, turn right and follow for just over 1km before picking up an access road on the left. Drop to the river, then climb sharply on tarmac until bearing left onto a rocky bridleway. Climb to Blackley Clough. Continue to Crookstone Barn trail crossroads. Turn right and descend 1.5km to Clough farm. Bear Left, climbing steeply on tarmac to a minor road, then head right through Nether Booth. Go under a railway bridge, then climb to a bridleway on the left, through a gate beside a house. Take the technical, rutted climb through a gully to Hollins Cross.
(GR 135845)Hollins Cross - Bear right here, climbing on the paved ridge. Head right onto the bridleway after a gateway where the trail splits around Mam Tor. Drop down the contour-hugging singletrack to a minor road just above a hairpin. Turn left, following to a T-junction, where you go left again. At the next T-junction turn right, then right again before immediately left into a byway.
(GR 128825)Oxlow Ho - Continue on the byway for 1.5km until intersecting the Limestone Way. Turn left onto the way. Continue for just over 1km until Cavedale descent past Peveril Castle. Drop through Castleton to the A6187, turning right and continuing for 2km back into Hope. (total distance 34km (21 miles))
