G2 Revolver - Sherwood PinesThe night stage of this series of three races was an ideal location for local lads. Sherwood Pines is right on the doorstep so was something that couldn’t be missed. Sherwood Pines is a great location and surprisingly unused by bike events. Being used to the big 24hr races this was a relatively small event in comparison but not to turn your nose up at. Before pulling on site it was expected the event would be staged on the big field. However the camp was tucked in a small area at the edge of the car park. Somewhere you wouldn’t expect to have a camp yet a very suitable location.
The course started with a fast descent through the car park (avoiding the pillars) and straight into the woods. The course was fast by all accounts with long sections of fireroad joining together the intricate woodland single track. Pete and Dave were the pair to enter the race. Dave came complete with chest infection that wasn’t going to spoil the event. Their camp was ideally located next to the transition area with a suitably sized gazebo constructed and a mini heat lamp for the cold night ahead. Lights were required for the full duration of this event starting and finishing at 8 o’clock. Pete began the race for the team with a quick lap immediately putting them in the top ten. Dave followed with his quickest lap of the event. A great start which continued through the night and into the morning. Dave battled constantly with his chest and the cold night but came through the finish still alive.
It was an excellent result with the boys coming in 8th overall. No major disasters or failures through the event. Definitely one for the diary in 2009. Just remember the park gates are locked at 10pm. For a full list of results click here |
