MTB TransWales '06'For all you go getters out there here is the latest challenge........The MTB Trans Wales. This is a 7 day event between the 12th and 20th August and could be the most gruelling you've ever done. For all the details go the Trans UK Website. Here's a snip of what they have to say about the event:
"Merida Bicycles, the long time sponsor of the ‘100’ series, has taken on an extra sponsorship for 2006 - the TransWales 7 day stage challenge. Merida has been involved as the title sponsor of the ‘100’ MTB Marathon series since 2004 and is going to continue to do so. On top of that they will take on the title sponsorship to the new mountain bike adventure of 2006. ‘We have learned a lot from our involvement in the marathon series and we will continue with our involvement with the No. 1 UK MTB Marathon Series’ says Chris Carter from Merida, ‘but it is also time to push the envelop a little bit further by supporting this new big UK cycling adventure’. ‘By being at the events and experiencing first hand what makes riders tick and what they really need to make their riding experience more enjoyable, we have been able to bring lots of those aspects into the 2006 and 2007 range’ elaborates Chris Carter, ‘being involved at ground level with the more extreme challenge of riding your bike for 7 days on the trot we will be able to bring even more to the table when it comes to putting future Merida bike ranges together’." MTB Trans Wales 2006 - EVENT DETAILSThe TransWales in 2006 will be limited to 150 teams which consist of two riders per team. The riders will be looked after during the day with breakfast, rolling lunch and dinner as well as energy food at selected checkpoints on the linking stages. They will have their equipment, tents and sleeping bags transported from location to location and will receive an in depth briefing of every linking and special stage along the way. They will also receive a substantial starter package which will provide them with some extra equipment in a special holdall which will carry all their belongings for the duration of the trip, and is theirs to keep. The TransWales will set up camp at visitor centres, camp grounds and leisure centres along the way and will offer the competitors facilities to keep themselves as well as their equipment in order. We welcome families and friends to accompany the TransWales with mobile homes and caravans but would be grateful to be notified on the size of vehicle and number of extra people we have to expect at the various locations so that we can make sure that we have enough space for everyone. Above all the TransWales will have a prize fund of £10,000 - £5,000 in cash and £5,000 in products. We will give rankings in the male, female and mixed categories and will have day winners as well as over all winners. The day winners will be rewarded with prizes and the over all winners and leaders will be rewarded with cash prizes as well as leader jerseys throughout the event.
