Chicken Skin Handbags

Clic24Only a couple of days left now until the Clic24 near Bristol. Team Chicken Skins will be present in the form of Mick, attempting his first solo 24 hour ride. Here's his view on the ride ahead;
Why are you doing the Clic24? It is a charity event and I thought I could raise some money at the same time. On a selfish note, I chose the CLIC24 to do on my own because I enjoy the team 24 hours (sleepless / mountain mayhem) so much that I didn't what to loose out of being part of the team for those events. Also after doing the team events in the mountain mayhem and sleepless 24 hour races, I fancied having a go on my own to see how tough a challenge it is. I think it will make me appreciate how fit some people are to complete the same amount of laps on their own compared to the teams of four. Have you got many sponsors? Yeah, I've got plenty of sponsors mainly from work. I'll be doing the great north run in September where I'll also have to get sponsorship so I'm trying to spread it out so I don't ask the same people twice in a year. I'll welcome anymore donations though!!!! How have you gone about training for a 24 hour event? Firstly I've tried to read loads of books to pick up some tips. I guess then I concentrated on building up my endurance during the winter months. Mainly including watching loads of premiership games whilst biking at the gym. Then I've had a phase of power training. I find spinning is as good as it gets. Is this an event you're looking forward too? After doing all the training, yes I am really looking forward to it. Is there anything you are dreading? I have heard there is a monster climb in the course. If it's as steep as the ones at Trentham then after a few hours of riding I'm sure I'll start to hate it. I suppose the bonus is if there is a big climb then there must be a good downhill to enjoy. I won't be to happy, as well, if it decides to rain. Last years Mountain Mayhem was a shocker because of the rain. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a nice sunny day. What's your goal for the event? My first goal is to complete the event and try and enjoy it. This is really a starter for ten to see how hard these events are. I guess I would be extremely happy doing 20 laps which would clock up 200 miles. How will you approach the event? I'll approach the event in the car.... ha, ha, ha. No really I'm going to take it out very slowly at the beginning. I'll aim to have a stop and a good meal roughly every 4 hours. We'll have to see what happens; it's all experimenting really to see what works best. How will you keep your energy levels up? I'll be constantly snacking each lap and then, as I've said, be aiming to have a meal every 4 hours. I'll keep plenty of water on me at all times as well. For all the info on the event have a quick look at the CLIC24 website.
